Kitchen Artefacts’ range of functional treasures is the creative vision of Tom Muir & Louise Armstrong.
Based in Te Miro, Tom & Louise set about developing the design & practical skills to craft their range of bespoke cooking & kitchen implements that Tom describes as ‘Heritage Cookware’. Their shared love of native trees & timber, the pleasure they derived from preparing & sharing good food, & Tom’s background as an artisan chef, all helped in the design of the range.
Only wood from ethical, sustainable sources is used & no trees are felled specifically. The focus instead is on recycled & salvaged timber (both native & exotic) from rural & urban resources; old logging & mill sites, creeks & river beds, arborist wood yards, & firewood stacks. Waste of this precious resource is kept to a minimum.
The drive behind Kitchen Artifacts is to honour the inherent qualities of the timber & the remarkable hidden history that often accompanies it.
