Collection: Heath Wilkes

Heath Wilkes lives and works in Oratia, near Auckland’s western beaches of Piha and Karekare. A graduate of AUT with a Bachelor of Design, he has worked across the art and design fields for more almost three decades.

His practice brings together traditional processes and contemporary production, including carving, screenprinting, woodblock printing, photography, resin and porcelain. Across these varied mediums, Heath is drawn to simplified forms, tactile surfaces and a clean, restrained finish.

His work is also informed by a longstanding family connection to French Polynesia, where members of his family still live. Growing up surrounded by photographs, books, carved objects and family heirlooms from Tahiti fostered an enduring appreciation for the art, imagery and culture of the islands.
