This beautiful Maukakī (neck adornment) is Medina Koni’s modern interpretation of taonga Māori, created using the durable braided wax thread and the traditional whatu (finger weaving) technique.

The woven body features bands of black, rich red, and natural cream/white, a palette deeply resonant with Māori tradition. The long, flowing fringe below utilises twisted strands (kārure tassels or similar) in the same striking colours, giving the piece incredible volume and movement.

This Maukakī merges bold colour symbolism with ancestral skill. It secures with an adjustable neck tie.
