In this deeply personal and nostalgic lithograph, Alexis Neal explores the oral traditions and musical heritage of Aotearoa. Lullaby II features hand-rendered lyrics from a traditional Māori waiata, set against the rhythmic structure of a musical stave.

The warm, aged tone of the paper and the delicate, hand-drawn script evoke a sense of memory, comfort, and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.

Hand-printed in a very limited edition of five, this work highlights Neal’s ability to merge the domestic and the cultural. By placing te reo Māori within the framework of written music, she celebrates the "lullaby" as a vessel for language and identity.

This lithograph is a soulful and evocative tribute to the sounds that shape our upbringing and our heritage, offering a tactile connection to the stories of our past.
