Kōkopu Pounamu Wave Pendant | Dean Marjoribanks
Kōkopu, Te Tai Poutini
Handcrafted by Dean Marjoribanks, this Wave Pendant brings together the flowing movement of the ocean with the strength of the traditional toki form. Carved from Aotearoa pounamu, the curved wave design is complemented by a toki-inspired edge, creating a piece that balances fluidity with strength.
Finished with a single hole binding, the pendant is suspended simply to allow the natural beauty, colour, and character of the stone to take centre stage. Each piece of pounamu carries its own unique markings, shaped by the whenua from which it comes.
Meaning of the Toki
The origin shape; the toki (adze) is a traditional Māori tool form associated with strength, determination, skill, and leadership. Historically used by tohunga (experts) for carving and shaping, the toki represents the qualities needed to overcome challenges and create with purpose.
Worn as a taonga, the toki carries a connection to resilience, knowledge, and the strength passed through generations.
