The Kea is the world's only alpine parrot & is native to the South Island of New Zealand. It is a large, strong bird & also, one of the world's most intelligent birds, able to teach itself how to turn on taps & unlock doors.
The Kea nests within the native forest, but are also highly inquisitive & social birds that are attracted to areas where humans gather. It has an inquisitive & playful nature can, however, result in it wreaking havoc on human property, pulling the trim off vehicles & buildings & damaging campsites. Limited Edition Print: 100
Unfortunately, the Kea is also now an endangered bird & as such is protected by the Department of Conservation.
