Binocular Vision Tohora | Paula Coulthard
Paula Coulthard evokes the deep mysteries of the moana in this atmospheric, large-scale flag. Crafted from distressed tarpaulin (house paint on canvas) the work features a majestic Tohora swimming freely seen through the lens of a pair of binoculars.
These new works are a continuation of the tarpaulin series but these are Banners painted on new cotton canvas.
The stylistic inspiration for the whale banners is a combination of vintage industrial advertising banners and side show or circus banners.
These works are a celebration of our connection to these magnificent mammals which feature in our cosmology, ancestry, myths, legends and history.
