Mandy's Whakapapa (genealogy) & Iwi (tribe) has a rich history with connections to Ngāti Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Ngāi Takoto & Ngāti Te Patū, she is also a descendant of the first European settlers to arrive in New Zealand. Joass's studies into her heritage ignited a deeper connection with ancestral knowledge which she expresses through raranga (weaving), which explores joyful cultural connection & diversity.
Mandy Joass works with recycled aluminum Venetian Blinds which serves as an industrial placeholder for harakeke (native flax) & a silent witness to decades of cultural, social & ecological change.
We are proud to support, Mandy Joass!
