Anna Hayes-Moeau
Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa, Pākehā
Rotorua–based designer and weaver Anna Hayes-Moeau is recognised for thoughtfully fusing traditional Māori weaving techniques with contemporary, innovative forms.
Her practice honours customary processes while exploring modern design, resulting in works that feel both grounded in history and confidently current.
Rooted in a deep connection to the land, Anna works primarily with native New Zealand plants, many of which she cultivates and harvests herself. This hands-on relationship with her materials strengthens the integrity of her practice, from seed to finished form.
Each piece is created in accordance with tikanga associated with mahi raranga, ensuring cultural protocols are upheld throughout the making process.
For Anna, weaving is not simply a craft but a living continuation of knowledge and whakapapa. Every finished object carries its own story of origin and transformation, reflecting the whenua it came from, the hands that shaped it, and the traditions that guide its creation.
We are proud to support Anna Hayes-Moeau!
