Collection: Constanza Briceno

Santiago-born, Papamoa-based artist Constanza Briceño creates rich, evocative paintings that serve as metaphors for memory. Drawing from her childhood in Chile and her life in Aotearoa, her work focuses on the beauty found in imperfection and the "beauty of the mistake."

Her practice is defined by the repetition and juxtaposition of colour and texture, where endless layers and veils intertwine to tell a story of people, places, and time. Briceño treats each canvas as an intimate mirror, using a personal palette to reconstruct passages of her history and honour the narratives of the women in her life.

A two-time finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award and co-creator of the BOP Open Studios, Briceño is a prominent figure in the Bay of Plenty art community. From her home studio near the sea, she continues to explore the narrative power of the painting process using the construction of her works to mend, repair, and remember.
