The Wax Eye (Silver Eye or Tauhou) is a small bird that is thought to have self-migrated to New Zealand in the early 1800's. It is a flocking bird that flits about through bush but is also capable of making longer flights. The Wax Eye is a monogamous bird, smaller than the sparrow. It has beautiful olive-green feathers on its head & wings & a distinctive white circle around its eyes.

The bubble that this pair of Wax Eyes sits within, signifies the 'bubbles' that we all sat within during the Covid-19 Lockdowns.
