The iconic silhouette of Tāmaki Makaurau’s most recognisable volcanic cone is explored in this minimalist watercolour study.

Meg uses a monochromatic grey/black palette to capture Rangitoto Island rising from the Hauraki Gulf, focusing on the calm, ethereal atmosphere of the sea and sky.

Through a delicate "wet-on-wet" technique, the painting depicts the island’s reflection bleeding softly into the water, blurring the line between land and sea.

The textured watercolour paper adds a tangible depth to the washes of indigo and cerulean, evoking the stillness of a cool morning on the coast.
