Hand-carved by artist Alex Sands, this elegant Hoe (paddle) is fashioned from Pōhutukawa, a wood deeply synonymous with the New Zealand coastline.

The piece features a slender, tapered handle that flows into a beautifully proportioned blade, showcasing the rich, warm grain of the native timber. Near the grip, the Hoe is finished with a traditional muka (flax fiber) cord, adding a tactile element that honors historical Māori voyaging and craftsmanship.
