From her studio in Island Bay, Pōneke, Melissa Young has created this striking bronze sculpture from her Extension range.

Extension is inspired by the idea of moving through fear and continuing forward, even when the mind wants to stop before the body does.

Cast from bronze and set on a wood plinth, this is a pleasingly weighty and tactile piece of art. Its strong upward form gives the work a sense of movement, effort and quiet determination.
