In this intricate lithograph, Alexis Neal weaves together the concepts of domestic protection and cultural pattern.

Shelter moves away from the literal text of her other works, instead using geometric repetition to explore the idea of home as a space of both physical and spiritual security.

The work features a house silhouette overlaid with a rhythmic, zig-zag pattern reminiscent of traditional Māori weaving or tukutuku panels. Rendered in her signature oxide red on aged, cream paper, the print carries a quiet, archival authority.

By merging the universal symbol of a roof with these specific cultural textures, Neal highlights how our sense of shelter is built not just from wood and nails, but from the histories and patterns we inherit.
