In this saturated and deeply textured lithograph, Alexis Neal continues her exploration of heritage and guidance through the natural world. Navigate II presents a striking shift from its predecessor, immersing the viewer in a rich, monochromatic field of earthy red.

The skeletal, leaf-like form—reminiscent of both a botanical specimen and the structural ribs of a traditional craft is etched with fine, vein-like details that suggest a living map of whakapapa.

Hand-printed in a highly exclusive edition of only five, this work highlights Neal’s technical prowess in lithography.

The intricate, almost cellular texture across the surface invites a close, tactile engagement, symbolising the complex layers of knowledge and history used to navigate one's place in the world.

It is a powerful and grounded piece of contemporary Aotearoa printmaking.
