Collection: Hannah Sheehan

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Hannah approaches her jewellery practice from her extensive experience as a jade carver.

Coming from a family of jade carvers, Hannah has been immersed in the tradition from a young age.  Daughter of carver John Sheehan, Hannah grew up in his Rotorua workshop & learnt to work with stone alongside her siblings. Even as a very young child, it was clear Hannah shared the same passion for the rare stone as her father. Driven to craft her own contemporary range of jewellery with Pounamu as a focus, she began working towards her distinctive range as a teenager.

In recent years, Hannah has developed her skills as a silversmith enabling her to further showcase her carving.
As a self-taught jeweller, Hannah revels in the unpredictability of working with a natural material.  An intuitive approach has encouraged her to embrace imperfections of form allowing the stone itself to shape her designs. Her skill as a carver gives her practice a flexibility, allowing her to respond to each piece of jade. She incorporates modern & ancient metalworking techniques celebrating texture, form, & function to fashion jewellery that will be treasured for many lifetimes.

Hannah creates a limited number of individual pieces from her small home studio, where she finds joy in the constant process of learning & honing her craft. An artist who puts a huge measure of love & time into each work, Hannah finds ultimate satisfaction in the finished products of her labour.

We are proud to support, Hannah Sheehan!
