White Moon Jar | Strahan Clarke
In this commanding ceramic work, Strahan Clarke reinterprets the traditional Korean Moon Jar through a lens of rugged materiality and historical depth.
While the "Moon Jar" is classically prized for its pristine white surface and perfect symmetry, Clarke’s iteration celebrates the strength found in imperfection and the passage of time.
The vessel’s expansive, spherical body is treated with a repetitive, stamped geometric pattern that wraps around its form like a woven tapestry or an ancient script.
Deep, organic fissures and "scars" break through this precise ornamentation, suggesting a form that has endured geological pressure or archaeological recovery.
Finished in a soft, bone-white glaze that settles into the carvings to highlight the dark, earthy clay beneath, this work stands as a monumental tribute to the enduring dialogue between human craft and the raw elements of the land.
