White Ceramic Cup on Pedestal | Strahan Clarke
In this tactile and grounding work, Strahan Clarke elevates the humble vessel to an object of quiet contemplation.
By pairing a wheel-thrown cup with a rugged, hand-formed pedestal, Clarke creates a dialogue between utility and monumentality, inviting the viewer to slow down and consider the object’s physical presence.
The surface of both the cup and its base is rich with rhythmic, vertical striations—markings that suggest an ancient architectural record or the weathered textures found in the natural world.
Finished in a neutral, creamy glaze that breaks over the textured clay to reveal darker, earthy undertones, the piece feels like an artefact reclaimed from the land.
It is a masterful study in balance and ritual, celebrating the beauty inherent in raw materials and the mark of the maker’s hand.
