Te Kete Hā | Medina Koni
Medina Koni presents a deeply grounding work of woven art in Te Kete Hā, a piece centred on whakapapa, breath, and steadying oneself. This beautiful artwork explores the warmth and protection that surrounds our very first breath.
The hue is left in its gorgeous natural colour, featuring a single mangōpare kōwhaiwhai pattern running down it like a spine or a pathway. Some of the kōru are intentionally shaped to look less mature to symbolise the breath still to come, representing the young and the new.
Around the neck sits a delicate cloak of single muka strands, secured using traditional whatu rua and finished with a plaited necktie.
These loose fibres carry natural red blemish markings from when the flax was harvested from the pā kōrari, creating a deeply soulful and elegant narrative for any contemporary interior.
