This charming Kawakawa Curio is a stunning example of intricate ceramic artistry on a miniature scale.

Hand-built from locally sourced stoneware, Emma Walker begins by layering underglazes, blending them like watercolours to achieve rich, subtle colour.

She then uses the detailed sgraffito carving technique cutting into the leather-hard clay to sculpt the Kawakawa leaves and reveal the bare clay beneath. 

This process results in beautiful, high-contrast detail. The piece is finished with a vibrant clear glaze to lock in the colour and enhance the texture.

As a small, unique object collected for its artistic value, this curio is a perfect celebration of New Zealand's native flora.
