Part of Mary Schollum's Vessels of Excess series, Carnival II expands on the joyful exuberance of Carnival I in a larger, more commanding form. An array of soft pastel glazes flows across the wide-brimmed vessel, melting, pooling, and dripping in beautifully unpredictable ways to create a surface alive with colour and movement.

Celebrating abundance over restraint, Schollum embraces the spontaneity of glaze in motion, finding beauty in layered surfaces, rich textures, and the unexpected. The result is a one-of-a-kind ceramic work that is both sculptural and expressive.

Each work in the series may be fired up to ten times, placing considerable demands on both the clay and the glaze. As a result of this intensive process, these vessels are intended as sculptural artworks and should not be considered watertight.
