Collection: Susan Haywood-Smith

Susan Haywood-Smith is a South Auckland-based Printmaker. Sus's artworks are a reflection of her personal history, of being Pakeha raised in South Auckland. With no links to her own Irish & English heritage, Susan finds herself absorbing the wonderfully rich cultures of Māori & Pacific Islanders around her. This has been reinforced by her family ties to the Te Arawa Iwi (Māori Tribe).

Susan Haywood-Smith continues to reconcile the two worlds of her British heritage alongside her experience with Māoridom, she is yet to determine the point of intersection at which she is placed. Susan's artwork allows her to work through this dichotomy, which in turn, creates powerful & stirring New Zealand artworks.

The subject matter within Susan's artworks is an expression of her deep love for nature & the subtropical environment of her upbringing. Motifs seen within Susan's artworks are Hibiscus & Frangipani Flowers & the colour red - this reflects Susan's passion for the South Pacific & its people.

We are proud to support, Susan Haywood-Smith!
