Shane's journey into carving began in Perth, 1986 when he was inspired to just ‘give it a go’ (using a hack saw and file) after being gifted a beef bone hook.
Upon moving back to New Zealand a few years later and investing in some machinery, he met a local bone carver who taught me the basic of bone carving. He began selling my carvings at local markets where I met Charlie Wilson, a very skilled carver. Charlie helped me to refine and expand my carvings skills, and I began to carve in whale bone. I went on to sell to well known carver, Hepi Maxwell at Te Puia in Rotorua, where I gained recognition for my work. Since then, my work has been featured on many popular websites and in a number of national and international galleries and museums.
Shane now works only in Greenstone (Pounamu) as this is where his passion and expertise lie.
We are proud to support, Shane MacIntosh!
