Tikanga 4/5 Lithograph Print | Alexis Neal
Printed on 300gsm Hahnemuhle Paper - Tea Stained
In this powerful silkscreen print, Alexis Neal explores the concept of Tikanga—the customary system of values and practices that guide Māori society.
The composition features a bold, rhythmic arrangement of red diagonal lines that evoke the intricate patterns of traditional raranga (weaving) or the structural ribs of a wharenui.
Hand-printed as part of a very limited edition of five, this work highlights Neal’s ability to translate complex cultural concepts into a contemporary graphic language.
The interplay between the textured red forms and subtle, dashed grey lines suggests the enduring strength of tradition and the protocols that bind communities together, making it a significant and resonant piece of modern New Zealand art.
