Kawakawa Stone
Kawakawa Stone represents the collaborative excellence of Madelyne Gourdin and Nick Spicer Balme, two award-winning carvers who merge international technical mastery with a deep reverence for the materials of Aotearoa. Operating from their workshop in Whanganui, their studio produces works recognised globally for innovation and traditional craftsmanship.
Maddy
Maddy began their career in France restoring historical monuments before moving to Aotearoa to specialise in jade. A multi-gold medalist at the Zei Gang Bei International Jade competition in China, Maddy's practice elegantly weaves European sculptural traditions with the natural landscapes and cultural influences of New Zealand.
Nick
Trained in Greymouth, the heart of pounamu country, Nick’s work is a tribute to his homeland. An award-winner for Creativity and Innovation at the Zei Gang Bei International Jade competition, he views the carving process as a vital counterbalance to the modern world, grounding his connection to the land and the stone.
