Pounamu Niho | Kawakawa Stone

Based in their Whanganui workshop, Madelyne Gourdin and Nick Spicer Balme of Kawakawa Stone combine international technical mastery with a profound respect for the heritage of Aotearoa.

This Pounamu Niho is a beautiful, contemporary take on a traditional form that feels both strong and deeply connected to the land, carved from rare Whakatū pounamu from Nelson.

The Niho (tooth or tusk) shape traditionally symbolises strength, resilience, and the protective qualities of a guardian.

This particular piece features a unique, decorative lashing along one side, which adds a modern detail while honouring traditional binding techniques.

It is a grounding taonga designed to be worn every day, serving as a reminder of one's own inner strength and perseverance.

A beautiful companion to keep with you on your daily journey.
