Pounamu Hei Matau | Kawakawa Stone
Based in their Whanganui workshop, Madelyne Gourdin and Nick Spicer Balme of Kawakawa Stone combine international technical mastery with a profound respect for the heritage of Aotearoa.
This Pounamu Hei Matau is a beautiful, contemporary take on a traditional form that feels both strong and deeply connected to the land.
The Hei Matau (fish hook) shape traditionally symbolises prosperity, abundance, and safe travel over water carved from rare Whakatū pounamu from Nelson.
This particular piece features soft, rounded curves and a central open space that follows the natural wairua and internal spirit of the jade.
It is a grounding taonga designed to be worn every day, serving as a symbol of peace and enduring strength.
A beautiful companion to keep with you on your daily journey.
