Dave Beamish
Ngāi Tai ki Tamaki
Dave Beamish is a New Zealand Jeweller based in the Bay of Plenty. Dave started making jewellery in the late 1970s, where he trained as a Diamond Setter - this acquired skill set gave Dave grounding in traditional jewellery techniques & continues to underpin all his work.
After many years of contract work as a jewellery maker, Dave spent some time broadening his personal experiences. Beamish went on to study casting glass, bronze & stone cutting at Northtec's Visual Art Course - this allowed him to incorporate a wider range of material & scale into his body of work.
Dave Beamish's love for Māori Art & Design comes from his heritage. Meeting Ethnologist - David Simmons, was a powerful encounter for Dave Beamish as it allowed him access to the archived taonga (treasure) at the Auckland Museum, which connected him deeply to his Whakapapa (genealogy) & Iwi (tribe) history. Dave's jewellery work navigates life's journey - joining the past to the present, to complete a full circle & begin afresh.
We are proud to support, Dave Beamish!
