In this striking original oil painting, Meg Cummins translates the rugged majesty of the Routeburn Track into a harmonious arrangement of colour and curved form.

Known for her ability to simplify complex landscapes into their most essential rhythms, Cummins captures the deep, glacial-carved valleys of the Southern Alps with a contemporary, graphic sensibility.

The composition is defined by the undulating silhouettes of the ranges, where lush, lime-green slopes give way to the recessive teals and brilliant blues of distant peaks.

A sharp, horizontal sliver of orange light breaks through the valley floor, suggesting the first touch of sun hitting the river or the golden tussock below.
