Earthly Moon Jar | Strahan Clarke
In this evocative ceramic work, Strahan Clarke strips back the traditional Moon Jar form to its most elemental state.
While the classic Korean inspiration often emphasizes a smooth, ethereal whiteness, Clarke’s Earthly Moon Jar focuses on the raw, unadorned beauty of the clay itself, grounding the celestial form in the tactile reality of the land.
The vessel’s warm, terracotta-toned body features a fine, vertical texture that invites touch, suggesting the striated patterns of weathered stone or sun-baked earth.
This organic expanse is punctuated by several glazed circular "moons"—windows of cool, pale blue slip decorated with delicate, hand-painted botanical motifs.
These luminous inserts create a striking visual rhythm, representing a dialogue between the vastness of the sky and the solid presence of the earth.
It is a masterful study in balance, where the raw and the refined meet in a quiet, monumental silhouette.
