The Tukituki River is located in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's eastern North Island. It stretches 117 kilometres, running east and northeast from the Ruahine Ranges to the Pacific Ocean at Hawke Bay's southern tip. Along the way, it passes through the town of Waipukurau and empties into Hawke Bay near the city of Hastings. The river is separated from Havelock North and Hastings by a rugged range of hills, including the famous Te Mata Peak. 

In Māori, Tukituki translates to "to demolish", likely referencing the river's powerful floodwaters. According to legend, two taniwha (mythical creatures) reside in a lake where the river ends, and they once fought over a young boy who had fallen in. This battle is said to have split the river into the Waipawa and Tukituki Rivers, effectively draining the lake.

Inspired by her understanding of the importance of land, and its connection to people, Nic Tucker creates woodblock prints of New Zealand landscapes that she produces on a printing press located in her Napier studio. From a limited edition of 78, this stunning print of Tukituki River has been individually signed & numbered by Nic, & is available framed or unframed.
