The Australian Magpie was introduced to New Zealand in the 1860's to help control pest insects in both the North & South Islands of New Zealand.

It's distinctive, shiny, black & white feathers make it a visually striking bird.

It is known to be particularly aggressive towards humans during its nesting season, dive-bombing anyone who comes near their nesting site.
