Le Bons Bay | Nic Tucker
Le Bons Bay on Banks Peninsula has an interesting origin for its name. While some may believe it was derived from a French settler's name, the truth is that it was most likely due to pre-settlement whalers calling it "the bones bay" because of the abundance of dry whale bones. Others speculate that it was named Le Bon (the Good) Bay by French whalers or mistaken for Akaroa by Captain Le Bas, who named it after one of his crew members. Regardless of its name's origin, Le Bons Bay truly lives up to its reputation as a beautiful and safe beach, with plenty of room for relaxation and limited development.
Inspired by her understanding of the importance of land, and its connection to people, Nic Tucker creates woodblock prints of New Zealand landscapes that she produces on a printing press located in her Napier studio.
