Between Land, Sea and Sky

Between Land, Sea and Sky

07 - 16 May, 2026

Between Land, Sea and Sky brings together four New Zealand artists whose practices are deeply connected to the natural environments of Aotearoa.

BETH MCGILL | EMMA WALKER | MEG CUMMINS | STRAHAN CLARKE

Through painting and ceramics, the exhibition explores the interconnected ecosystems that shape our landscape; varying from the grounded textures of earth to the shifting forms of the ocean, and the delicate life carried through the sky. Each artist interprets these elements through their own materials and processes. Feathers become surfaces for painted native birds, clay is shaped into organic forms echoing coastal terrain, and sweeping painted landscapes capture the emotional presence of land and atmosphere.

Together the artists and their works create a dialogue between the earth, water and air, revealing the subtle relationships between these elements and the ways they influence both environment and identity in Aotearoa.

Beth McGill - Sky
Beth's practice centres on painting native New Zealand birds onto feathers. These delicate surfaces create a direct connection to the birds themselves, celebrating the beauty and fragility of avian life here in Aotearoa. Her works embody the sky element, highlighting flight and the presence of native birdlife across our landscapes.

Emma Walker - Sea/Land
In her ceramic practice Emma explores the forms, textures and rhythms of land and sea, her sgraffito designs referencing coastal environments reminiscent of the Aotearoa landscape. These pieces weave together symbolism from ancient, mythical and living forms as part of an ongoing series exploring the tension between abundance and loss, and reflecting on biodiversity in the shadow of climate change.

Meg Cummins - Land/Sea
With her landscape oil paintings Meg explores the emotional and atmospheric qualities of Aotearoa. Her gestural approach captures the spirit, the colours and shifting light found across the ocean and earth environments, grounding the exhibition in the physical presence of terrain.

Strahan Clarke - Land
Strahan's inspiration is deeply rooted in natural materials and earthy forms. His vases, vessels and orb-like sculptures reflect the tactile qualities of clay and the grounding presence of the earth itself.

We are so pleased to present this beautiful exhibition from four exceptional artists. Don't miss it!
