Greenstone Wahaika On A Timber Base By Alex Sands
This stunning Wahaika has been carved by the talented hands of Alex Sands out of Marsden flower jade(pounamu), and sits upon a piece of native New Zealand timber. Wahaika are a specialized Maori hand weapon traditionally used in battle, and a combination of mere and tiki which are usually made from whale bone or wood. Alex chose to carve this particular piece in order to preserve as much of the colour, size, and form of the stone as possible.
