Collection: Sue Syme

Sue Syme is a Painter & Print Artist based in Picton in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand's South Island. At the young age of 16 years, Sue embarked on a Diploma in Fine Arts & Printmaking at the Otago School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1981. Whilst the music scene in Dunedin was producing the distinctive sounds of The Clean & The Verlaines, Sue was discovering European Artists such as Kircher & Matisse - their raw post-war expressionism has maintained an influence across her body of work.

Sue went on to complete a Diploma in Teaching & taught Printmaking at Te Tai Poutini Polytech in Greymouth, this allowed her to explore her love for woodcuts & etching. Her latest project 'The New Zealand Native Birds' collection, showcases her intricate sketching style. Sue Syme accredits this work as being a reflection of local conservation projects. Sue's sketches are laid bare against a contrasting retro colour palette.

Syme's body of work continues to grow while receiving recognition & collection both nationally & internationally.

We are proud to support, Sue Syme!
