From the Ika Moana/Whale Series by Paula Coulthard. Ika Moana is a very old Maori name for whales, the English translation is Fish of the Sea. This series of work is inspired by the concept of Kaitiakitanga (guardianship & protection). Features Paikia with the new moon rising & Matariki signaling the time of year to be the Maori New Year in Winter. This is the time when Humpback whales migrate past the east coast of the South Island & through the Cook Straight.
This stunning limited edition flag has been made by Aotearoa (New Zealand) Artist - Paula Coulthard. The landscape & NZ whale has been personally stenciled & painted on Cotton Canvas material. All Paula Coulthard Flags are easy to hang with wall pins & hold a wonderful presence within a space.
